Since 2011, the app Procreate has been a big name in the world of digital art. Thanks to a generous hardware loan from Arts Corps, we’re bringing this popular illustration program to LINK, with iPads provided!
We’re excited to welcome regional artist and designer Jessie Lipscomb, who will lead us on a crash course in Procreate and single-frame storytelling to create our own characters.
To open the workshop, Jessie will share her own artist’s journey with us. Then, we’ll practice Procreate basics like brushes, layers, and shortcuts, alongside principles of general anatomy and storytelling with body movements. We’ll be using our own selves as inspiration to create either a character based on us OR a character you wish existed!
Using exaggerated proportions and dynamic poses, you’ll leave this workshop with a better understanding of Procreate and a one-of-a-kind illustration based on you to inspire you to keep trying new things.
Student prep: Bring a photo of yourself in a funky or active pose, or bring a photo reference of anyone making big movements. Need some ideas? Check out Jessie’s illustrations page for examples of active characters!
Note: This workshop will end at 1pm, half an hour earlier than September’s workshop.
Registration for this workshop opens at 5pm on October 5th. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis – sign up ASAP by October 10th to get a spot!
Jessie Lipscomb is the founder of Momma Lips Draws, a small illustrating business of almost 4 years creating custom portraits, public art, teaching workshops and digital consulting. Her recent pieces were inspired by self-exploration and the childlike wildfire joy from her own kids. In discovering this style she calls “Refreshed”, she allowed herself to release any internal pressures to create something specific & to get back to the basics of drawing where she first fell in love with art.
