February is the perfect month to escape the drizzle and learn the art of drypoint printmaking! You will learn how to draw on a plexiglass plate using a drypoint tool and how to make prints using an etching press.
You might get ink on your clothes! Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty (or bring an apron or old t-shirt that can go over your clothes).
We will provide images and illustrations for students to work from, but you can also bring your own. The theme will be animals (real and imaginary), but students are welcome to choose a different subject. Please note that the final print will be a mirror image of your drawing. This is especially important if you are including text.
Brad Taylor is a printmaker, bookmaker, and teacher. Brad also manages the printmaking studio at Cornish College of the Arts and spends much of his time instructing students on a wide range of processes, such as intaglio etching, mezzotint, woodblock engraving, and even papermaking. See photos of his washi paper making workshop.
