Embark on a color-ific journey with guest artist, design, and educator Luz Bratcher as we learn the principles of color mixing -- and how to break them! Using watercolor painting techniques, this experimental color theory class will push the boundaries how we understand color, inviting us to explore the depths of hue, saturation, and luminance in brand-new ways.
What we’ll do
Luz will share her own artist’s journey with us before diving into color-mixing techniques with watercolors. We’ll start with the basics of primary colors, secondary blends, and the secrets of achieving subtle gradients and vibrant contrasts in our work while painting along together.
To break free from traditional “Red, Yellow, Blue” mixing principles, we’ll look inwards and experiment with creating gorgeous color palettes inspired by nature, emotions, and cultures. From written notes to shape-making, we’ll learn professional artist techniques to build a practice for cataloguing our personal palettes for years to come.
Student prep: Bring 1-3 small items from natural areas near you to the workshop! We’ll share our items with each other and use them for palette inspiration.
Please RSVP by 4pm on Monday, Nov 13 to save your seat!
