Event Details

At least 5,000 years ago, Ancient Egyptians recognized that gold had extraordinary properties, and began to pound out this captivating element into very thin sheets. They applied the resulting malleable, durable metal foil to all sorts of surfaces. Over time, these techniques spread and developed across the world to unfailingly awe-striking effects.

Fast-forwarding to this March, fine artist and educator Christopher Coleman will guide us through creating our own versions of this timeless artform. Christopher will share some of his own journey and teach the special techniques required to work with metal foil on a canvas. We’ll focus on creative experimentation based on geometric shapes to make the most of our material. You’ll walk away with your own gleaming piece and lots of new ideas to explore!

Location: Thanks to a partnership with the Gage Academy of Art, this workshop will take place in one of Gage Academy’s fascinating working studios, located in the Georgetown Equinox Artist Studios.

RSVP by Sunday, 3/17 at 6pm to save your seat and receive directions to the studio!
