Zines were first born from sci-fi fans in the 1960s, and since then artists young and old have adapted them to cover every topic under the sun through collage, writing, comics, poetry, and more. Ever wanted to publish your own work, shout out a message to the world, or just talk about your favorite things, but didn’t know where to start? Zines are your gateway to underground creative communication!

In this workshop, award-winning professional graphic novelist and illustrator Jessixa Bagley will share her journey, the history of zines, and the basics of the art of graphic communication. Each of us will create our own full-page piece using the many tools and artforms available. We’ll get themes and guidelines for how to get started, and then we’ll be set free to explore anything we like in our entry. The pages will be combined into a full-class zine at the end of the day, and you’ll get to walk away with your own original piece!
