Location:

Workshop Category:

Students will learn the art of storytelling through comics. Drawing a comic is akin to cinematography with no limitations but the imagination and ability of the artist. With the most basic of materials, the 2-D medium can flow and be packed with movement. We will learn how to use perspective and composition to create a visually compelling story that enhances the written word.

ASSIGNMENT:
We will be using an actual, professional comic script and making a collaborative comic book - all during the workshop. One might think of it as an exquisite corpse - a whole piece rendered by a collective of artists. Each student will receive one page of the script and draw it, starting with thumbnail sketches and finishing with inked black and white art - even adding color, if time permits. At the end of the workshop, we'll put the pages together to complete the whole comic book. If students are done with their pages early they can contribute a cover for the book.  The finished piece will be digitized and added to the website.
