This Workshop is structured to provide students with an overview of what a portfolio is and how portfolio's are used both for college applications and in the professional world. After an introduction from Terry Marks on the value of story, personalization of your work and portfolio, Volunteer reviewers pair off with students for one-on-one evaluations. Volunteers, who are familiar with college and professional aspirations, help students review strengths and weakness of their work and help them hone skills or identify gaps needed to fill in their portfolio. They also talk to students about types of portfolios both physical and online. Goal is to help build confidence, bolster strengths and give vision and purpose to students. Student are then paired with a professional photographer who helps them photograph a few key pieces of their artwork and explains how to set up lighting and backdrops so student have knowledge to do future capturing on their own. Finally, students conducted an exit interview with a volunteer who is a professional talent placement recruiter. The goal of this is to demonstrate presentation and communication skills to the students, giving them a boost in confidence, practice in front of each other and trust in their abilities to speak with someone they don't know. Take-Aways: instructional handouts, flash drive for JPEG images and oversize carry case portfolio are provided for each student.
