Dive into the fundamentals of observational drawing in this portrait study exploration! Trois crayon is a historic combination of three materials — charcoal, white chalk, and red conté — that when woven together can capture beautiful warmth and depth in a human face. In addition to a portrait drawing, leave class with a knowledge of skull anatomy, proportion, and basic principles of form rendering.

About Grace Flott

Hailing from eastern Washington and a resident of Seattle since 2008, Grace Athena Flott is a fine artist and arts educator with a focus on realism. A graduate of the University of Washington and the Juliette Aristides Atelier, she is trained in the classical method of observational drawing and painting. She exhibits work at institutions around the Northwest including the Maryhill Museum of Art and the Royal Nebeker Gallery. Most recently, her awards include 1st Place in Portraits from juror and Tacoma Art Museum curator Rock Hushka in Best of Gage, Gage Academy of Art (2019). She was also a Finalist in the Art Renewal Center Annual Competition for her self-portrait drawing “Burned, not broken” (2019). With a focus on the human figure, portraits, and still life, her work has been covered by numerous publications including Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine, Real Change Seattle and, Artist and Illustrators UK. She is a teaching artist at Gage Academy of Art (since 2016) and hosts private instruction at her studio in SoDo Seattle.
